SOLIHULL & Shirley Badminton Club took their game across to Germany for the Sprudel Cup where clubs from across Germany and France took part in a team-based competition.
Points were collected by the number of games won by the participants in all of the disciplines within two standard categories.
This was the tenth year that Solihull & Shirley had taken part and they were looking to retain the cup for a third consecutive year.
Team members Tom Burton, Rob Spink, Richard Henry, Paul Harris, Liam Styler, Kiara Henry, Shirin Naveed, Annabel Harris and Fauzia Arif fought hard to come third in a very tough competition.
Burton won the top Men’s singles and Spink won the top Men’s doubles with a German partner. Henry also did well to come third in the top mixed with Spink and finished fourth in the top Ladies’ singles. Styler and Harris also came fourth in their mixed category.
The team will return for next year’s competition where they will be hoping to win back their trophy.
Elsewhere, a new session is being set up for primary school pupils to play badminton. They will take place on Saturdays from 2.15-3:45pm at Langley Secondary School.
