LIAM Delves secured a podium finish in one of the final two races of the 2021 Pirelli National Junior Superstock championship at Brands Hatch to secure sixth place overall.
The Solihull rider started from the middle of the second row in race one but made a superb start at the lights to move up to third place on the opening lap.
He passed George Stanley on lap two and battled with Zac Corderoy for the lead at the halfway stage before briefly being passed by Stanley.
However, he regained second place on lap nine and held onto the position to the chequered flag with Delves hailing his mum’s influence to secure a podium finish.
Delves said: “My mum was on the pit board so I knew what was going on behind. I knew he was coming but luckily I had the pace to just stay in front and get second place.”
Despite starting from the front row in race two Delves was boxed in on the opening lap to find himself down in 11th place.
The 21-year-old slowly worked his way back up the field before overtaking Stanley on the penultimate lap to finish in sixth place.
Following the completion of the championship, Delves thanked those who have supported him throughout the 2021 season.
He added: “After a bad start I was down in 11th place but I managed to catch up with the leading group and crossed the finish line in sixth place.
“That concludes my year with JR Performance and I must thank the team for all the support over the season.
“I must also give a huge thanks to my loyal sponsors and of course my family and friends who once again have supported me throughout the season.”
Those results mean Delves finishes the season in sixth place in the rider standings on 143 points.
He will now reflect on his season and announce his plans for 2022 in due course.
