Solihull swimmers impress at district gala

A FANATASTIC performance from 22 swimmers saw Solihull come away from the Coventry and District Open Meet with 38 medals and 91 personal bests.

Elizabeth Aston was a standout performer after winning the girls 50m and 100m breaststroke events for the 12-year age group while Ben Kelly also took Gold in the boys 200m backstroke event in the 11-year category.

Kelly also came runner-up in the 400m freestyle event along with Elizabeth Aston (200m breaststroke), Reece Harvey (10-year 200m backstroke) and Laila Elfandi (10-year 50m butterfly).

Blythe Barracudas were also well represented at the gala in Nuneaton with over 30 swimmers contributing to 85 medals.




The boys were in fine form with nine-year-old Lukas Whaley seizing gold in the 100m individual medlay and he also claimed Silver in the 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle events.

Toby Allen, 10, was also in top form after coming away with Gold in the 200m freestyle, and he also finished runner-up both the 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle as well as taking home Bronze in the 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.


There were also Gold medals for Michael Greenhill (200m breaststroke), James Morris (50m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke and 200 IM), Matthew Wilkinson (200m backstroke).

Not to be outdone, there were several top performances by the girls with Carmen Whaley, 10, picking up gold in the 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke events and she also finished third in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 200m IM.

Other Gold medals went to Verity Allen (200m breaststroke), Alisha Greenshields (200m butterfly), Jessica Deans (50m butterfly and 50m freestyle)

Danielle Armstrong, 13, was another swimmer in fine form after picking up Gold in the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle, while she also finished runner-up in the 50m butterfly and 200m butterfly events.

While Scarlett Flynn gained Gold in the 200m breaststroke and Silver in the 200m freestyle and 200 IM.
