Solihull Moors youngsters win Italian tournament

MOORS’ under-17s side came out victorious in the Italy International cup in Riccione after failing to concede throughout the whole tournament.

A host of teams from Canada, USA, Norway, Italy, Hungary, Finland, Sweden, Netherlands, Ireland, Macedonia, Argentina and Australia all gave the tournament a truly international feel.

And it proved to be a huge success for Moors who were the convincing winners in the league stage after finishing top of their group undefeated.

A 2-0 win against an organised Italian team in the quarter final followed and a tense penalty shootout following a 0-0 stalemate in the semi-finals saw Solihull hold their nerve and get past a Canadian team to book their place in the final.




The final was played in front of a full crowd and Moors were victorious thanks to a 3-0 victory over English side Wattsfield United.

A coaching and player success by all in the importance of ball retention which was significant when playing in temperatures in excess 35 degrees and Moors under-17s’ head of youth development Mark Fogarty said he was delighted with the youngsters.


He said: “What a fantastic experience and result from the lads under manager Neil Guy against top opposition Internationally.

“We are all very proud of this achievement for the club which puts us on the map abroad. Well done Neil, Karl and team.”
