SOLIHULL Blossomfield made an impressive start to their 2016 campaign with a hard fought 118 run victory away at Castle Bromwich.

After losing the toss and being forced to bat, openers Richard Weaver (65) and Naveed Bashir (51) wasted no time in taking control of the game with a brisk opening stand worth 119.

Some accurate middle overs bowling from the home side threatened to halt Bloss’ charge towards a total of 250.

However a mature innings from 17-year-old Edward Thompson (30) steadied the ship and built a platform for Harvey Satterthwaite (41) & Nathan Myers (14) to add some quick runs at the back end of the innings. The final total was a very respectable 279-8 from their allotted 50 overs.

In reply the hosts were dealt a blow in the second over when Myers (1-19) trapped Adam Nicholas LBW.

However some resolute batting from Castle Bromwich & in particular Ashley Hipkiss who made a well constructed 65, seemed to be taking the game towards a draw.

However three wickets in two overs from Bashir (4-17) & Satterthwaite (3-39) turned the game in the visitors favour & when Jamie Kinman (2-27) ended his impressive bowling display, clean bowling Paul Miller, victory was assured with two & a half overs to spare.

Bloss will aim to build on their impressive start when they entertain Moseley Ashfield on Widney Lane this Saturday.
