Solihull & Small Heath take PBs aplenty at nationals

SOLIHULL athletes made their mark at the English Schools’ Track and Field Championships, hosted last week at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

Eleven athletes from Solihull & Small Heath Athletics Club were out in force at the national tournament, with a number of encouraging results recorded by the pool of local representatives.

Chris McLeod, competing in the senior boy’s 3000m race, completed a personal best time of 8:32.40, while Ashleigh Bailey recorded a distance of 11.67m in the senior girl’s shot putt event.

In the inter boy’s triple jump event, Adam Visram-Cipolletta was tenth with his effort of 13.11m, while Poppy Koumblis finished 11th in the junior girl’s javelin, throwing a personal best distance of 32.42m.




Jamie Russell and Erin Troop were the remaining athletes from the club to make it to their respective finals.

Russell’s personal best of 6.33m qualifying him for the inter boy’s long jump final – where he finished 12th, while Troop cleared 1.51m in the junior girl’s high jump to rank 14th.


Featuring in the heats were Arif Mohamed (4th) and Adam Mohamed (7th), who recorded times of 22.63 and 22.74 respectively in the senior boys 200m qualifying round, while Olivia Webber (6th) ran 26.06 in the inter girl’s 200m event.

Completing personal best times, but going no further in the competition were Lily Saxon (5th, 2:16.40) and Sophia Davila (6th, 41.76) in the inter girl’s 800m and 300m events.
