SQUASH: WEST Warwicks Sports Club’s head squash coach will be representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow at the end of the month.

Deon Saffery, 26, who was born in Cardiff, has been living in the West Midlands for the past three years is a five times Welsh Champion and two time British Chamion and is currently the British doubles and mixed doubles champion.

Ranked 45 in the world Saffery said she would be delighted to get to the quarter finals in the individual event but was really looking forward to the doubles where she will line up against Welsh team-mate Tesni Evans.

“We are dark horses in the doubles and we are hoping we can surprise a few people by coming away with a medal.” said Saffery.

“This is my first multi-sport event and it is a huge honour.

“I can’t wait to mingle with all the other athletes and really soak up the atmosphere.”

Saffery begins her competition on Thursday, July 24.

The Solihull athlete is also on the lookout for a new sponsor.
