Reason to be cheerful this festive season at Solihull Water Polo Club

WATER POLO: THERE’S reason to be cheerful this Christmas for Solihull Water Polo club.

Since joining the British Water Polo League five years ago, the men’s team has gained successive promotions to Division One, where they finished third last season.

But performances in the pool have stepped up a gear this term and, heading towards the season’s halfway stage, the club tops the table.

Still a young team, with the majority of players in their early 20s, the club competes at the highest level of British Water Polo.

They are boosted by the inclusion of 18-year-old Matt Madden, skipper of the Great Britain Under 19s team.

Other representatives include Morgan Hirsch and Jordan Elliot, both of whom played for GB students at the World Student Games in Taipei.

Elsewhere, the club’s junior section for boys and girls continues to thrive.

Krishan Kaushal was named skipper of the Midlands’ Under 16s team while Dan Hindle, Pratham Kaushal and Rhys Tippings all featured for the West Midlands Under 14s team that won the Swim England Inter-Region Championships last weekend.

Much of the credit for this success must go to Head Coach, Phil Powell, whose coaching prowess has been recognised with his appointment as head coach to the GB under 17 team.
