FOUR boys from Solihull and Small Heath Athletics Club made their mark at the Midlands English Schools Combined Events Championship recently.
The quartet won the team event, and as a result, have earned the opportunity to represent the West Midlands in the ESAA National Finals in September.
Jamie Russell was the best performer from the club, leading the overall competition up until the seventh event, when he slipped down into second after the final 1500m race.
Ben Clarke excelled at his maiden Octathlon, finishing in fourth, whilst Ben Steele (10th) and Charlie Panayiotou (14th) also demonstrated good progress across the events in their junior year of competing.
Over in the Junior Girls Penthathlon, Solihull’s Poppy Koumblis finished 11th overall.
