OLD Yardleians Rugby Club will be holding their annual 15-a-side rugby tournament this Saturday.
Last year’s tournament was another great success with nine sides taking part including debutants Vipers from Leicestershire, who won the main competition, and fellow newcomers Willenhall, who won the Plate competition.
The format of a series of 20 minute games allows coaches to gives their first team and peripheral squad members plenty of rugby against varied levels of opposition.
Now in its 35th year, the tournament was renamed in 2008 as The Moss Goode Memorial 15-a-Side Tournament in memory of the hard-working Old Yardleian Moss Goode, who sadly passed away in 2008.
Moss did sterling work for rugby in the area not only for Old Yardleians but in various roles for Greater Birmingham RFU.
This season sees Leicestershire side and last year’s tournament winners Vipers return to defend their title alongside East Midland neighbours and tournament regulars Ashby, plate winners Willenhall and Bridgnorth in what promises to be another cracking day of rugby at Tilehouse Lane.
The competition kicks off at 1pm and spectators are most welcome.
