OCTAVIAN DROOBERS ORIENTEERING CLUB placed second in the Compass Sport Cup qualifiers, missing out on top spot by just 16 points.

Droobers scored 2421 points at the event organised by Harlequins Orienteering Club, finishing just 16 points behind trophy leaders North Gloucester who earned 2439 points.

Five club members scored the maximum 100 points after coming first on their respective age class courses: Bruce Bryant M60+, Alistair Landels M45+, Kirsten Strain Women Open, Juliet Soulard W45+, Philip Vokes Men Open.

The other 20 scorers for the club were: Alistair Powell 99 points, Keith Willdig 99, Richard Gardner 99, Adam Landels 98, Luke Cherry 98, Andy Emmerson 98, Sheila Carey 98, Anne Straube 98, Harriet Lawson 97, Tom Jeffries 97, Liz Phillips 96, Henry Jeffries 96, Max Straube-Roth 96, Mark Rookledge 94, Ruben Jeffries 94, Jill Emmerson 94, Russell Finch 93, Tony Feltbower 93, Gerry Spalton 92 and Mykyta Chubynsky 92.

The event took place in the Postensplain area of Wyre forest in Worcestershire and, despite the muddy terrain, running across streams, through bracken, brashings and showers several Droobers achieved fantastic results.

And the event acted as a qualifying round for the national Compass Sport Cup and Trophy Finals with hosts Harlequins Orienteering Club and Wrekin Orienteers heading through to the Trophy Final for smaller clubs.

The next local event takes place in the woods at Everdon Stubbs, near Daventry on Saturday, February 19.
