Olton cruise to big victory

OLTON & West Warwickshire hosted Conference West basement boys Clifton Robinsons and put them to the sword in an 8-0 thrashing on Sunday.

The previous meeting ended 4-4 but this time around Olton’s dominance showed from the off with Chris Ralwings scoring after just two minutes.

Steve Batten then doubled Olton’s lead in the 26th minute from a penalty corner.

And just before half-time he doubled his tally with a goal from open play.

After the break Olton mae it 4-0 after 42 minutes through Joe Paul and five minutes later David Ebbage bagged the fifth.

Despite going through a sloppy patch, Olton returned to full focus and made it 6-0 just before the hour mark, thanks to Chris Beck.

Two minutes from the end Ed James made it 7-0 and a minute later Harry Sherlock popped up to complete the rout.

Olton make the trip to league leaders University of Exeter on Saturday before playing host to Isca on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Ladies Firsts were edged out 3-2 by Reading on Saturday in Conference West after throwing away a 2-0 lead.

Looking to avenge the 2-0 home defeat from the first day of the season, Olton started well with Harriet Payne opening the scoring after eight minutes from a penalty corner.

And the visitors doubled their lead two minutes later after Alice Conquest scored from open play.

But just past the quarter hour mark the hosts reduced the arrears from a penalty corner.

After losing midfielder Kerry Thompson-Moore to a hamstring injury, this disrupted Olton’s set up and although they reached the break 2-1 up, they were pegged back to level terms after 52 minutes.

And four minutes later the turnaround was complete when Reading scored from open play.

On Saturday the ladies travel to Swansea and on Sunday they host Oxford Hawks.
