North Midlands RFU match to raise funds for motor neurone disease

THE Memorial Ground on Streetsbrook Road will host a re-enactment of the North Midlands RFU’s first-ever fixture, in a match to commemorate 100 years of the union, on Sunday (2.30pm).

Played at the home of Edwardian Rugby, the contest will form part of the union’s centenary celebrations, whilst also marking the official opening of the Edwardian’s brand-new first team pitch by the Mayor of Solihull before kick off.

Spectators are invited along to enjoy a BBQ and drinks from 1pm, with proceeds going towards the Doddie Weir Foundation – which funds research into Motor Neurone Disease and helps out sufferers of the condition.

Club president Paul Price extended a warm invitation to the area’s rugby community, and said: “We are delighted to be hosting the North Midlands to celebrate their Centenary, and we would love to see our friends from all the local clubs join us for a great day here at The Eds.

“This will be very much an entertaining social event, with many players of yesteryear pulling on their boots for a ‘run out’, to blow away the years of cobwebs in celebration!”

Former players in the North Midlands leagues who wish to appear in the match are asked to contact North Midlands chairman Charlie Hemmings on 07967 259379, or by email at [email protected]
