FOOTBALL: FIFTH-placed Knowle come from behind twice to secure point at Coton Green following an 3-3 draw in the Midland League Division Two.

Knowle came out of the blocks quickly with Callum Ingram heading against the bar in the fourth minute from a Charlie Evans corner.

Two minutes later they had to rely on Perry Cox to keep the home side out as he dived at the feet of the Coton Green striker.

Twice in the space of a couple of minutes Kyle Jaynes cut in off the left flank and wasted opportunities before Knowle took a deserved lead with 19 minutes on the clock.

A loose ball fell to George Seeley on the edge of the box and his right-footed shot was deflected past the home keeper.

Cox protected the lead with a smart save at his near post before Knowle came close to extending their lead when first Torryn Connelly shot narrowly wide from 35 yards out, then Jaynes wasted a one-on-one opportunity before Jaynes pulled another effort wide of the target.

The misses were costly as within a minute Coton were awarded a penalty when McArdle was adjudged to have barged his opponent and Coton duly converted from the spot.

It got worse for Knowle in the 38th minute as the hosts took the lead when a ball up to the edge of the box was set back for their midfielder to strike home from 20 yards out.

However, Knowle bounced back and were level against two minutes later as Ben Ellicott latched onto an Evans cross and found space in the area to slot home. Unfortunately Knowle could not see the half out and went behind again in the 43rd minute as Coton made progress down the right and the cross was bundled in at the back post.

It could have got worse for Knowle at the start of the second half as they again had to rely on Cox to save at the near post.

That save proved vital because as the half progressed Knowle started to take control of the game and put the home team under significant pressure.

It tool until the 78th minute for Knowle to get back on level terms as Ellicott’s pass split the defence for Evans to cut in off the right and strike the ball home.

The young Knowle team pushed for all three points but Sam Bethel’s free kick narrowly missed the target, as did another Evans effort before a Dylan Parker drive was deflected wide.

Then Luke Fox nearly bagged the winner late on as he brought the ball down and shot on the turn only to see his effort go just past the upright.

Knowle host Redditch on Saturday at Hampton Road and will look to gain revenge for their New Year’s Eve defeat.
