HOCKEY: A FAIRLY one-sided game saw Solihull Blossomfield Badgers beat Yardley Badgers with Hannah Shoreson scoring the only goal of the game.

Blossomfield started the game strongly, with Cameron Mowat, Ben Grizzell and Harry Mowat building attacks from midfield.

The visitors soon took the lead after player of the match Shoreson slotted the ball home after a scramble in the D.

The goal seemed to motivate Yardley who then came in to the game but they failed to trouble the Bloss goal thanks to good defending from Curtis Breillat.

Bloss had their fair share of chances with both Shoreson and Jodie Price going close but it remained 1-0 at the break.

Bloss continued to create chances in the second half and they came close again with Mowat hitting a fantastic strike towards the top corner which forced a brilliant save from the Yardley goalkeeper.

However, Bloss had to be aware as Yardley almost took a few late chances, which were kept out well by Logan Robertson in goal. Blossomfield held of well, and kept the game at 1-0 until the final whistle.

Elsewhere, Solihull Blossomfield’s second team picked up a hard-earned point at home to Sutton Coldfield after playing out a 1-1 draw.

The hosts started strongly and penetrated down both wings before the breakthrough came towards the end of the first half through a short corner routine, deftly touched in at the post by Becky Craig.

Sutton capitalised early on in the second half through a defensive switch off and scored from open play with a beautifully taken strike at the top of the D.

Both sides enjoyed periods of possession, but neither could break the deadlock. Liz Clarke was threatening for Bloss and created a number of chances on the right, but the score remained 1-1 at full time.
