FOOTBALL - Knowle surrender early lead in defeat at Kenilworth Sporting

Solihull Editorial 1st Mar, 2022   0

KNOWLE FC surrendered an early lead as the Robins were beaten 3-1 by Kenilworth Sporting to bring their three-match winning run to an end.

Despite George Seeley’s sixth-minute strike, Knowle conceded three second-half goals to suffer a damaging defeat in their quest for promotion.

The result leaves Knowle third in the Midland Football League Division Two table, four points behind Coton Green in second with a game in hand.

And Knowle made a dream start at Gypsy Lane when Seeley headed home on three minutes after he was left unmarked in the six-yard box.

The Solihull club dominated the remainder of the half but were unable to add to their lead despite having eight shots on target with George Woodward in fine form in the Kenilworth goal.

And Sporting made Knowle pay for those missed chances on the hour mark when Kyle Janes finished from 18-yards out to bring the two teams level.

Janes then grabbed what proved to be the winning goal on 80 minutes when his lob attempt was helped in by the head of a Knowle defender.

The goal came as Knowle pressed for a winner themselves which left the Robins exposed at the back with goalkeeper Jack Tregartha racing out of his area to clear only for Janes to still somehow find the net.

And Harry Wilson added a third goal for Kenilworth after he capitalised on a defensive mix-up to put the game out of Knowle’s reach.

Knowle are next in action at home to Redditch Borough on Saturday, March 5 with kick-off at 3pm at the Draintech Community Ground.
