FOOTBALL - Earlswood Town secure first league win in almost two months against Lane Head

JORDAN McKenzie scored twice as Earlswood Town came from behind to defeat Lane Head 3-2 and secure their first win in seven matches.

McKenzie edged Earlswood ahead just before half-time before doubling his tally in the second-half after Andy Matthews stunning lob had drawn the hosts level.

Mark Swan put Lane Head in front early on before Isaac Cooper reduced the deficit, but the Earls held on to secure their first league win in almost two months.

The result means Earlswood are now ninth in the Midland Football League Division Two table – five points clear of bottom side Bolehall Swifts.

However, the home side made a poor start when Swan headed home from a corner after just five minutes.

Earlswood quickly restored parity when Matthews levelled from 40-yards out with an outrageous lob over visiting keeper Craig Pain.

And the hosts deservedly took the lead shortly before the break when McKenzie glanced home Leadun Dunlevy’s corner.

McKenzie scored his second of the afternoon at the Pavilions when he flicked home Shane Doyle’s deflected cross to all but make sure of the points.

Lane Head kept themselves in the contest when Cooper drilled a low effort beyond Alastair Lewis but Tom Reynolds’ side held firm to secure a vital three points.

Earlswood are next in action against Solihull rivals Knowle FC on Saturday, December 11 with kick-off at 2pm at the Draintech Community Ground.
