FOOTBALL - Earlswood Town concede at the death in draw with Coventry Alvis

EARLSWOOD TOWN conceded a last gasp equaliser as they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Coventry Alvis.

Andy Matthews’ goal looked to have given the Earls all three points only for Riley Keasey to strike at the death.

The result means Earlswood sit 13th in the Midland Football League Division Two table, five points clear of bottom side Bolehall Swifts.

And Alvis made a strong start, on the back of four successive wins, with David Obeng twice shooting goalwards from distance.

However, the visitors took the lead on 35 minutes when Matthews glanced home from close range from Jordan McKenzie’s driven cross.

And Matthews could have doubled Earlswood’s lead after the break when he had a half chance following some good work from Joel Hughes.

Hughes then had a chance himself when he attempted to jink his way into the box only for Alvis goalkeeper Jack Hartopp to recover and claim the ball.

Earlswood spurned another chance five minutes from time when Hughes shot inches wide from Shane Doyle’s cross from the right.

And Coventry would make the visitors pay for those missed chances when Keasey lashed home in the fifth minute of injury time to deny the Earls a crucial victory.

Earlswood are next in action against local rivals Hampton on Saturday, January 29 with kick-off at 2pm at Field Lane.
