EARLSWOOD Town were beaten 2-0 at home by high-flying Fairfield Villa to remain just two points off the bottom in the Midland Football League Division Two table.
Goals from Dan Sutton and Louis Jones condemned the home side to defeat for the second time in as many matches.
The result leaves Earlswood in 12th place – two points above bottom side Bolehall Swifts – having won just three of their 13 matches this season.
And the hosts made a poor start when Sutton’s effort from the edge of the penalty area deflected past Earlswood keeper Alastair Lewis after 16 minutes.
Fairfield doubled their lead in the 26th minute when Jones tapped home from close range after Lewis could only parry a shot from the edge of the box into his path.
Earlswood improved after the break and had a chance to halve the deficit when Jordan McKenzie beat his marker and played in striker Joel Hughes who blazed an effort over the crossbar.
McKenzie then came close when his low effort towards the bottom corner was superbly saved by the Fairfield keeper.
The visitors withstood some late pressure from the home side to take all three points with Earlswood now preparing for a crunch home clash with Redditch Borough next weekend.
