Delves takes best-ever result at Brands Hatch circuit

Solihull Editorial 17th Jun, 2019   0

BRANDS Hatch circuit provided Solihull rider Liam Delves with his best result of the season so far, when he finished fourth in the fourth round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600.

The 18-year old earned 13 championship points in the process, pushing him up to 13th in the overall standings.

His preparations went smoothly during free practice and in qualifying, where he finished fifth, to place him in the second row for Sunday’s main event.

However, with heavy showers saturating the track come race day, Delves’ task at hand was made more difficult by the tricky conditions.

The start of the race led to Delves being caught up in the middle of the pack and moving down to ninth, but after finding some pace, began to mount an assault for the riders in front during lap five.

He moved up to fifth by lap nine of the 14-lap contest and passed the championship leader Aaron Clifford on lap ten to rise to fourth.

It was a position he would maintain for the final four laps of the race to achieve his best ever result in the class – finishing in a time of 24:29.462.

The Via Moto Racing rider was left delighted by his efforts and said he stayed calm to eventually rise through the rankings.

“What a weekend at Brands Hatch with Team VMR. Starting from the second row, my aim was to try and hang on to the leading group, but in sketchy conditions, I found myself in the middle of the pack down in ninth place,” he said.

“But I stayed relaxed and got comfortable then started to move forward – I felt I had a good pace so kept my head down and I ended the race in fourth position.

“Thank you to all my team for putting a mega Kawasaki ZR6R together with great settings all weekend plus all my loyal sponsors and friends that support me.”

Delves now readies himself for round five of the championship at Knockhill in just over a week’s time, taking place over the weekend of June 28-30.
