Delves secures top-10 finishes despite difficult week

SOLIHULL rider Liam Delves admitted it was a “difficult week” despite securing two top-10 finishes in the Pirelli National Junior Superstock championship at Oulton Park.

The 21-year-old suffered from technical issues with his Cheshire Mouldings and Woodturnings Ltd Kawasaki ZX6RR powered by JR Performance which forced him to settle for 19th place in qualifying – the seventh row on the grid.

However, Delves was able to cross the finish line in 10th place in race one – a performance that earned him a start from the third row in race two where he finished seventh.

Despite the technical problems that plagued his weekend, Delves was delighted to have retained sixth place in the rider standings.

He said: “That’s the end of a difficult weekend at Oulton Park – I managed to pull back a few points and retain my sixth place in the rider standings.

“I’ll head home and prepare for Donington Park and hopefully be able to push forward.

“Thank you everyone for their support and my team for their hard work all weekend.”

Delves made an excellent start to race one, moving up three places on the opening lap before finding himself in 10th place by lap four, but could not catch up to the leading group.

He added: “I managed to complete the race in 10th place and my lap times were sufficient to move me up the grid by 10 places for Sunday’s race.”

The weekend’s action leaves Delves on 105 points as he looks to move into the top-five ahead of the penultimate round of racing at Donington Park.
