Delves impresses at Snetterton with a pair of top ten finishes

MOTORSPORT: TALENTED borough racer Liam Delves recorded two top ten results at the fifth round of the HEL Performance British Motostar championship at Snetterton in Norfolk at the weekend.

The 16-year-old qualified in sixth place and started the first of the two races from the second row on the grid.

Delves had to work hard to secure seventh place in the race though after a rider ahead of him fell, causing the youngster to take evasive action to avoid hitting him.

The near collision lost Delves momentum as he spent the remaining ten laps playing catch up to eventually finish seventh, picking up nine championship points.

He said: “I got tangled up in a crash but managed to swerve and avoid the rider in the middle of the track.

“That left a big gap between me and the front six riders and I was unable to catch them.”

Delves had no such problems on Sunday though as he started the 12 lap feature race on the third row before getting involved in an exciting tussle for third place between seven riders.

Former Banks Racing teammate Ed Rendell passed Delves on lap ten before Sam Llewellyn followed him through which demoted Liam to ninth.

But shortly after completing the move, Llewellyn crashed and Liam retook eighth position and completed the final two laps to pick up eight more championship points.

Liam said: “ I had a great weekend at Snetterton.

“I finished race two in eighth place and am happy with my performance as I managed to stay with the group fighting for third place.”

The British Motostar championship contender now sits 11th in the rider standings on 54 points with the next round taking place at Brands Hatch over the weekend of July 21-23.
