Deflection denies vital win for first team - Blossomfield Hockey Club latest

SOLIHULL Blossomfield’s first team secured a much-needed point in their West Midlands Premier Division visit to Bridgnorth 2nds in the Midland Men’s Hockey League.

Harry Busz finished from Sam Lloyd’s cross to open the scoring for Bloss as they sensed they could secure only a second win of the season.

But a deflected effort from a Bridgnorth player evaded goalkeeper Ben Rabone and left him with little chance as it ended 1-1.

In South West Division One, the men’s second team were rampant in their 5-1 rout of Bournville 3rds.

In Bloss’ first away fixture of the year, Logan Robertson scored the first goal after ten minutes to get the ball rolling.

Harry Mowat, Paul Russell and Ali Christian also found the net to take charge of the contest, before Tom Armanani completed the win after the hosts had reduced the deficit.

In Division One of the Warwickshire Women’s Hockey League, Bloss Ladies’ second team were on the end of a 5-2 thrashing by visitors University of Warwick.

Solihull started strongly and took a two-goal lead through Mel Bates and Helen Kavanagh, but Warwick roared back after netting from a penalty corner before the half-time whistle.

The students then smashed four goals without reply to leave Solihull bewildered.

Matters were completely different in Division Four, however, as leaders Blossomfield 3rds defeated Coventry & North Warwickshire 2nds 5-1.

It initially proved a tense affair between two of the best sides in the division before Coventry put themselves in front after 20 minutes.

But the quality in Solihull’s ranks eventually came to the fore, leading to goals from Jo Hine, Sian Musgreave-Spiby (2), Katie Willard, and Hannah Shoreson.
