FOOTBALL: HIGHLY-rated defender Jess Carter has committed her future to Birmingham City Ladies after penning a new 18-month deal with the Women’s Super League club.
The talented 19-year-old will remain at Blues until July 2018 and as part of the deal there is an option to extend her stay for another year.
Carter was ever-present last season after making a total of 21 appearances in all competitions and her excellent performances saw her claim no fewer than four accolades at the club’s end of season Player Awards.
Carter capped off a fine season by winning four prestigious awards including the Mangers’ Player and Players’ Player of the Season accolade.
The England Next Generation star, who can play in defence and across midfield, also claimed the Young Player of the Season title and was the top choice for supporters who voted her the Supports’ Club Player of the Season.
Carter’s new deal is a real statement for Marc Skinner’s side ahead of the forthcoming Spring Series.
The Warwick-based defender joined the Club in 2013 and made her senior debut at the tender age of 16 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg against Arsenal.
Elsewhere, promising 19-year-old Sarah Mayling has moved to Blues from rivals Aston Villa on a six month deal.The technical midfielder came through Villa’s centre of excellence and can play as a central midfielder or out wide as a winger.
Mayling, who is known for her outstanding technical ability and eye for goal, missed the majority of the 2015 campaign after suffering an ACL injury, but she returned last season to make a total of 22 appearances.
