BADMINTON: KIARA Henry continued on her journey towards a career in badminton after winning bronze at the Carlton Youth International in Hoensbroek over the festive break.

The Arden School pupil has already represented England at Under-15 level in Denmark and Switzerland and she did her reputation no harm by finishing third at the three-day tournament in Holland.

Henry took bronze in the mixed competition with her German partner Matti and the pair only lost out to the number one pairing who went on to win the mixed final.

Kiara and her partner Matti teamed up with two other players from Belgium and the Netherlands, called the International Team, to take part in the team event where they faced other European teams.

The International team won their initial two matches, beating a strong German team before entering into the play offs.

The team beat Switzerland’s Under-15 national team in the semi-finals to set up a final with the Under-15 French National team.

Kiara and her partner Eubil from Belgium set the team off to a great start by winning their hard fought mixed match before the French made it 1-1 by winning the men’s singles.

The women’s singles went to the International team and men’s doubles went to the French team setting up the final and penultimate game in the women’s doubles featuring Kiara and Amy Tan (Netherlands).

Both Kiara and Amy displayed their quality, skill and athleticism from the first serve and took a considerable lead, breaking the spirit and resolve to take the win and gold medal in the process 3-2.

Kiara’s good run of formed has continued into the New Year as she took part in the Under 17 Gold event in Redbridge London Januray 6-7 where she took home bronze in girls doubles and mixed.
