SOLIHULL Barons’ season came to an abrupt end at the weekend, when losing on 13-7 on aggregate to Telford Tigers in the Moralee Division play-off quarter finals.
A 7-5 thriller won by the Barons on Saturday in the first-leg was one of their best performances of the season, taking a three-goal lead inside 15 minutes through Matt Maurice and a goal each for brothers Adam and Luke Brittle.
Telford struck before half-time to bring a goal back, but a rampant second-half with further strikes from the Brittle brothers and Niklas Ottosson secured a convincing win.
Sunday’s match was a different affair, with the Barons short benched and up against a bigger and stronger roster of players in the Tigers’ ranks.
Telford’s Jonathan Weaver was a key threat, scoring two and laying on three more for team-mates, as his side advanced to the semi-finals.
There will be a five-month lay-off before the Barons next step to the ice, when a more competitive division is expected – thanks to the promoted sides forming a brand-new premier tier.
