KIARA Henry from Solihull won double gold at a national badminton tournament after claiming the title in both the women’s and mixed doubles events.
The 19-year-old was playing at the Middlesex Senior Gold Tournament and secured her first senior titles having competed in such events since the age of 13.
Henry successfully partnered with Anne Hubscher from Worcestershire in the women’s doubles before claiming another gold with partner Mike Roe from Cheshire in the mixed event – despite being unseeded in both disciplines.
After beating Abigail Hong and Leona Lee in straight sets in the women’s doubles final – Henry and Roe needed three sets to see off number two seeds Angus Pedersen and Zoe Hallam in the mixed doubles.
The Warwickshire County Badminton player currently studies law at Derby University and obtained a badminton sports scholarship from the university to become one of their supported Dual Academic students.
Earlier this year, Henry reached the semi-final in the mixed event at the England Senior National Championships in Milton Keynes with her partner Jonty Russ.
The pair were beaten by two full-time England players in the form of Victoria Williams and Matt Clare – losing a tight game over three sets.
