Young musician, 8, wins prestigious competition - beating the adults

A YOUNG musician, aged eight, hit the right notes and came out on top of of a prestigious competition.

Aidan Siqi Zhao went head-to-head with adult musicians and was crowned the winner of the Solihull Musician of the Year at the Grand Winners’ Concert.

The Eversfield Prep School pupil played Sinfonia No.15 by Bach and Lied ohne Worte by Mendelssohn on the piano followed by Souvenir de Sarasate by Potsock on the violin.

Having taken first place in both the under-11 piano and under-11 strings classes, Aidan wowed the judges with his performance at the final concert, beating adult musicians in the process.




He was presented with a trophy and £1,000 music scholarship by the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Stuart Davis.

Andrew Biggs, Eversfield Prep School’s director of music, said: “We are incredibly proud of Aidan.


“He is an incredibly talented musician who thoroughly deserves his achievements.

“He recently gained a Distinction in his Grade 7 ABRSM Piano exam, which is a phenomenal result for a child of his age.

“We are very excited to see what the future holds for him.”
