Works to create congestion busting upgrade to M42 near Solihull well underway

WORKS to create a new link road as part of a multi-million-pound congestion busting upgrade to the M42 near Solihull are well underway.

National Highways have released these images to show the work that has been done on the newly named A4545 which has been created as part of a £282million upgrade of the M42 junction 6.

The new 2.4km dual carriageway link road – aligned to the west of Bickenhill – will connect motorists with the A45 Clock Interchange as well as Birmingham Airport, Resorts World and the National Exhibition Centre.

The new road forms part of several changes designed to ease congestion and provide motorists with smoother journeys for those travelling to Birmingham International Airport and Birmingham International train station.

National Highways programme leader, Anita Prashar, said: “These new images offer a glimpse into the work that we’re doing to make journeys smoother for motorists as part of this major upgrade to the road network in Solihull.

“We’ve planned this part of the work very carefully to make sure that we don’t cause disruption to the M42 itself and to help keep traffic moving through the region while we build the new link road.

“We’re really grateful to the local community nearby for their patience and understanding while this work takes place and we’re in regular contact with them to make sure that we can address any concerns or issues while the work takes place.”

When the new-look road opens in 2024/2025 National Highway say motorists will enjoy improved journey times and increased road safety, making connectivity across the Midlands better.

And with work at the site gathering pace, residents, businesses and road users are being invited to find out more about progress at a series of events taking place.

The project team will be on hand to answer any questions along with experts from the contractor delivering the work to talk about a range of topics including our environmental work, traffic management, construction plans and more.

The events will be held on:

Friday, September 24 from 11am until 8pm at Catherine De Barnes Village Hall, Hampton Lane, Catherine de Barnes, B91 2TJ.

Monday, September 27 from 10am until 7pm at Arden Hotel and Leisure Club, Henley Suite, Coventry Road, Bickenhill, B92 0EH.

Tuesday, September 28 from 10am until 3pm at The Fentham Hall, Marsh Lane, Hampton in Arden, B92 0AH.
