Woman arrested at Birmingham Airport over terrorism charges

A 30-YEAR-OLD woman has been arrested at Birmingham Airport on suspicion of preparing to travel to Syria to engage in terrorist acts.

She was arrested under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit at 9.40am on Wednesday (July 29).

The woman’s home address in Leicester and another, associated address are currently being searched.

There were three children travelling with the woman and the Police are working with partner agencies to ensure their welfare is safeguarded.




Officers made the arrest under PACE legislation, meaning they have a maximum of 36 hours to question her before charging, releasing, bailing or applying to a court for a warrant of further detention.
