A GROUP of charitable friends will embark on a 140-mile sponsored walk in aid of Help For Heroes.
Alex Edwards will by joined by four of his friends as they hike from RAF Cosford in Wolverhampton to RAF Marham in Norfolk from December 17 until December 23.
The 20-year-old will be braving the winter cold with Tom Esson, Alex Tsui, Kris Lees and Duncan Calvert as they trek through the British countryside.
Currently working as a Tudor Grange cover teacher, Alex will be swapping books and pens for walking boots and a compass for his latest challenge.
With the aim of raising £500, Alex said he hopes his efforts will inspire to people to donate to the charity which works hard to supports thousands of men, women and their families from the Armed Forces.
He added: “I want to go into the RAF when I’m older, I think it’s a good thing to do and should I sign up I’d be training in Cosford and Marham which is why I’ve decided to walk between them.
“We’re all doing this as part of our Duke of Edinburgh challenge but hopefully we can raise a nice sum of money for Help For Heroes too.
“I’ve been training for a while now by going to the gym as this task isn’t going to be easy.
“We’ve planned to stop over at different destinations on six nights so we’ll be staying in village hotels, B&Bs and at a relatives place – they’re all hosting us free of charge or with discount which is amazing support.”
