Step out with the Moors and help Afghan refugees fleeing Taliban

Solihull Editorial 1st Dec, 2021   0

SOLIHULL Moors supporters are being asked to join a Winter Wellness Walk in support Afghan refugees arriving in the UK before Saturday’s match against Woking.

Organised by the Solihull Moors Foundation in partnership with Living Well UK, the aim is to raise money to provide essential hygiene and basic necessities for Afghan refugees who helped the British Army there.

The walk begins at Mell Square in Solihull town centre at 11.30am and end at the ARMCO Arena where Moors host Woking at 3pm.

Upon completion of the walk, participants will be greeted by festive refreshments to warm up, and as this is Moors’ final home match before Christmas, there’s a call for Santa hats to be out in force!

Living Well UK’s Sarah Cannon and walking therapists, Becky Moore and Simon Davies, will be stepping out too and will be on hand to have a chat if people want to talk.

The initiative comes after Moors were asked by Solihull Council and in partnership with the Village of Forgiveness, to run a project enabling refugees to access sporting activities, receive hygiene packages, clothes and shoes.

To help make this project a success, the Moors Foundation would welcome any donations from supporters who have unwanted shoes in good condition.

In addition, Moors Foundation staff will be holding a bucket collection during the game with monies raised helping to deliver the project.

The walk should take approximately one hour, bring yourself, friends and family, wrap up warm, wear sensible footwear and don’t forget a Santa hat.
