SoLO celebrate another year of dedication and support for those with learning disabilities

A NIGHT at the Oscars was the theme for this year’s Solihull Life Opportunities (SoLO) awards at the Holiday Inn.

Staff, members and volunteers got dressed up to celebrate another year of dedication and support for people with learning disabilities.

The ‘Oscars’ were awarded to those who exceeded all expectations of their various roles in SoLO’s projects over the past year.

Jamie Box won the special achievement award, Emma Hughes was handed the individual hero of the year, Jan Prior came out on top in the fundraiser category and Glynis Harris – SoLO’s volunteer photographer – won the Go Getter award and Daylight won the team hero of the year award.

The evening was organised by the Voice Group, a representative body of members with a disability, at SoLO.

CEO at SoLO, Janet Down, said: “This was a wonderful evening – everyone had an equally superb time regardless of the level of disability.

“It was amazing to see our members, dressed up to the nines, in black tie, ball gowns enjoying a first-class experience. It was exactly what they deserved.

“Cost was kept to the minimum so that those on lower incomes could attend with their carers and the Holiday Inn were very supportive.”
