SOLIHULL Symphony Orchestra are tuning their instruments ahead of their Spring Concert this weekend.

From 7.30pm on Saturday, April 9, at The Core there will be music from two English suites – The Wasps by Vaughan Williams and the Capriol Suite by Peter Warlock.

The orchestra’s lead violinist Cristinel Bacanu will also be performing The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams and two short virtuoso violin pieces, Monti’s Csardas and Sarasate’s Gypsy Airs.

Cristinel said: “All these pieces are very close to my heart – and they each showcase a different part of who I am, my British and Romanian gypsy heritage.”

Born in Bucharest and trained in the USA, Cristi has been leader of Solihull Symphony Orchestra since 2018.

The concert will be conducted by the orchestra’s music director, Jon Malaxetxebarria.

Tickets cost £13 for adults, £11 for concessions, £5 for students and children are free.

They are available by clicking here, from orchestra members or on the door.
