The concert at Shirley Methodist Church on Stratford Road will be led by guest conductor Richard Jenkinson and will feature work by the black American composer, William Dawson.

The concert also includes two works by Frederick Delius, an English composer who visited the United States in the late 19th century and was also much influenced by black American music.

Richard Jenkinson is conductor of the National Police Orchestra, the Orchestra of St John Bromsgrove and the Worcestershire Youth Orchestra. He is a member of the Dante Quartet and several other chamber music groups, and was formerly a principal cellist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
