Solihull residents encouraged to 'shake it' in aid of Cancer Research UK

Solihull Editorial 5th Nov, 2016   0

SOLIHULL residents will be shimmying and twirling in a sponsored DanceFitathon to raise money for Cancer Research UK on Sunday, November 20.

The event will take place at CTC Kingshurst Academy sports hall between 1pm and 3pm, with registration from 12pm.

The two-hour session will include Zumba, Bollywood dancing, Fitsteps and Clubbercise and dancers rocking the best Christmas fancy dress will receive a prize for their efforts.

Dance instructors from across the borough will be supporting the event, including Reza Farrell from Reza DanceFitness & Music UK, Anushka Parmar from Aspire Dance, and Emma Louise Brown from Dance Fitness Solihull.

In the West Midlands alone 38 people die every day from cancer and each year 200 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Solihull.

Cancer Research UK has saved millions of lives by supporting research into all types of cancer through the work of over 4000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Councillor Karen Grinsell, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “One in eight women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives.

“This event is a fantastic fun way for Solihull residents to join the fight against cancer. I would encourage everyone of any age or ability to come along and dance as little or as much as you like – you don’t need to be the next star of Strictly.

“If dancing isn’t your cup of tea you can always support this brilliant event by sponsoring a dancer or donating on JustGiving.”

Anyone interested participating should register at www.solihullactive.co.uk

Sponsorship forms can be collected from Smiths Wood, Kingshurst or Chelmsley Wood libraries or Solihull Connect Chelmsley Wood. Alternatively, donations can be made at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/DanceFitathon
