TWO SHELDON dentists have tragically drowned whilst spending the bank holiday weekend in Malta.

Dr Lyace Ali and Dr Mohammad Kamran Shabir, partners at The Sheldon Dental Practice, died on Saturday, May 23 after getting into difficulty whilst swimming in the famous Blue Lagoon off Comino island.

Maltese police said officers were sent to assist the 35-year-old dentists – rushing one to hospital by private boat and the other by helicopter.

But, despite their best efforts the pair were pronounced dead later that afternoon.

A third man, Dr Hussain Ahmed, worked alongside Dr Ali and Dr Shabir at the practice and also got into trouble at the famous beauty spot, but survived the ordeal.

In the wake of the tragic news, The Sheldon Dental Practice is closed until early June, with tributes being lain by the closed shutters.

Solihull MP, Julian Knight, described the incident as an ‘appalling tragedy’.

He added: “This is clearly a tragedy for the family and I am sure I speak for the people of Solihull in passing on my sincerest condolences.

“I am assisting in every way I can as constituency MP in order to minimise distress and ensure that everything that needs to be done is done in a timely manner.”
