Sharmans Cross Junior School celebrate Holi

SPRING was welcomed in a colourful celebration at Sharmans Cross Junior School as pupils took part in festivities for Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colour.

As part of the school’s arts’ fortnight there was plenty for all to get involved with from music and dance workshops to dazzling rangoli artwork and designing fabric prints.

A professional Bollywood dancer paid a visit to the Sharmans Cross Road school and gave the children a masterclass.

Pupils also took part in an Indian Dhol drumming workshop where they learnt about the origin of Dhol drums, how the drums are made and how to play them.

In art lessons, children created their own Rangoli patterns, made their own clay candle holders and designed their own fabric prints.

Observer photographer Jon Mullis was on hand to capture these pictures of the celebrations.
