A FITNESS fanatic who fell in love with running during lockdown has taken on the Barcelona marathon.

Kelly Moorcroft took to the streets to keep fit when Covid restrictions saw gyms close their doors in 2020 and set her sights on completing her first marathon in aid of Mind, the mental health charity.

The Solihull resident, who works as a ward clerk team leader at Spire Parkway Hospital joined hundreds of others at the starting line to complete the 26.2mile course around the Spanish city.

She completed it in four hours and 10 minutes.

Kelly said: “I wanted to run for a charity very close to my heart – Mind.

“Mental health is crucial at the moment with so many people suffering, but they don’t always have anywhere or anyone to turn to for help.

“I believe that there are a lack of resources for those who are suffering and I would like to think that the money I raise will be able to help gain resources for those in need and improve people’s lives.”

Kelly set herself of raising £500 for the charity and so far she has raised more than £550.

“It was an amazing experience and a great achievement, with thousands of people cheering you on the sidelines and motivating you.

“Knowing that I was able to raise money for a good cause was a massive motivator too.

“Now I’ve completed my first marathon, I’m already planning the next.”
