Solihull Editorial 17th Feb, 2018   0

TWO SOLIHULL hospital radio presenters have been nominated for prestigious awards.

The Birmingham Hospitals Broadcasting Network (BHBN), a volunteer run charity radio station, has been recognised for the entertainment it provides at hospitals in Birmingham and Solihull.

The Hospital Broadcasting Annual Conference and National Hospital Radio Awards will be held at the De Vere Beaumont Estate, Windsor, from Friday March 23 to Sunday March 25.

Penny-Jane Bourne from Solihull has been nominated as best newcomer.

Emma Boydell, also from Solihull, has this year been nominated for best female presenter after winning runner-up in best newcomer last year.

The BHBN has also been shortlisted for best hospital radio station in the UK.

Judges for the awards include NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens and the ceremony will be announced by Alan Dedicoat, the famous voice of the national lottery draws, along with health and media professionals from around the UK.

The gala awards evening is on Saturday night with a team from BHBN Hospital Radio representing the station.

The BHBN functions at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals and provides entertainment for the hospital community.

It is the UK’s biggest Hospital Radio Station and the oldest – they celebrated their 65th anniversary last year.

The radio station is operated by volunteers, it is a registered charity and it is solely reliant on fundraising to help them continue their charitable work.

Auriga Services, which works with utility companies, last year donated £3,000 for them to build their brand new editing suite.

Penny- Jane Bourne has been a Request presenter but she now presents a radio show on BHBN for the Wednesday evening show from 8pm.

BHBN is celebrating five award nominations.
