A TALENTED Hockley Heath dancer is set to take centre stage with a nationally acclaimed professional ballet company.

Catherine, who attends Dreamers Dance Academy, has been rehearsing for Sleeping Beauty with the English Youth Ballet (EYB).

She will take to the stage at the Theatre Royal Nottingham later this month alongside principal dancer Lyndsey Fraser and six other dancers of international standing.

The eight-year-old gained a place in the EYB following an online audition which saw more than 150 of the region’s most talented young dancers step forward to become part of the cast.

Catherine said: “I was quite nervous at the start of the EYB project, but now that rehearsals have started, I am just more and more excited about the shows.

“The teachers and the other dancers are all lovely.

“I absolutely love spending whole weekends doing ballet, learning the choreography and working on my technique.

“I can’t wait to be on stage with so many talented and professional dancers. It’s a dream come true.”

The Hockley Heath Academy pupil has been dancing since she was three and enjoys watching performances by the Birmingham Royal Ballet with her mum Ellie.

Elise Packard, principal of Dreamers Dance Academy said: ‘I am extremely proud of Catherine for not only representing Dreamers Dance Academy so beautifully, but for being proof that dedication, passion, discipline and focus can help you achieve amazing things.

“She has accomplished so much already for a young dancer and I know that this is just the start of a very exciting future watching Catherine dance and perform.

“This little ballerina is headed for big things. I am one very proud teacher.

“Her excitement and pride to be a part of this prestigious performance is magical to see.”
