A SCHOOLBOY from Solihull enlisted in Captain Tom’s fundraising army – and raised £600 for good causes.
Inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore, eight-year-old Freddie Pemberton, a pupil at Eversfield Preparatory School, joined the nation’s army of fundraisers and took on the #CaptainTom100 challenge by baking and selling cupcakes over the weekend to mark what would have been Captain Tom’s 101st birthday on April 30.
The first 100 cakes quickly sold out so Freddie baked some more and ended up serving up closer to 200 which were snapped up by neighbours, family and friends and at Knowle Village Cricket Club and Silhillians RUFC.
Having smashed his original fundraising target, and ultimately raising an incredible £600, he decided to split his earnings equally between The Captain Tom Foundation and the school’s nominated charity, Solihull Carer’s Trust.
