Free car crime prevention day coming to Solihull

Solihull Editorial 16th Jun, 2022   0

A FREE Car Crime Prevention Day will be coming to Solihull on Saturday, June 18.

The family event will be hosted by MotorServ UK at its Sales and Media Centre in Monkspath Business Park and was organised by the community panel for vehicle crime prevention, which is led by West Midlands Police.

It is part of a project to raise public awareness about vehicle crime as well as discuss how it can be prevented and what measures can be taken to catch thieves and recover stolen items.

The three-hour event will start at 10am where people can meet officers from the police traffic, dog and drone units to discuss safety tips and measures that can be taken in the community.

Companies including GSF Car Parts, Euro Car Parts and Toolstation will be giving vehicle safety product demonstrations and there will be more than 200 security marking kits available for application on the day.

There will also be talks on how relay theft happens and how thieves use blockers to stop cars from locking in public spaces.

Sgt Mark Heard from West Midlands Police said: “We continue to experience theft of and from vehicles across the Solihull Borough and we are constantly looking for ways to help reduce this and other crimes.

“We are delighted that Motorserv UK is working with us as well as other businesses and community leaders as a part of the newly established proactive Crime Reduction Panel.”

MotorServ UK’s managing director and former West Midlands Police Special Constable, Kamran Saleem, said: “I have seen first-hand the devastating and costly impact that car crime has on individuals so I’m passionate about prevention and supporting the Solihull community.”
