RAIL passengers experienced major delays this morning after a man was hit by a train near Birmingham International railways station.

The man was pronounced dead just after 6.40am today (November 7) by emergency services at the scene, just north of the station.

British Transport Police (BTP) said: “Officers are working to establish the man’s identity and inform his next of kin.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

Lines between the station and Birmingham New Street re-opened at 8.40am, but disruption continued until midday.

Passengers travelling towards London and the south east and those also going to Manchester were among those most affected.

Operators Virgin Trains, London Midland and Arriva Trains West were affected by the disruption, with tickets being accepted on alternative routes.
