Dedicated nurses rewarded

Solihull Editorial 18th May, 2015 Updated: 21st Oct, 2016

THE DEDICATION and compassion of nurses at Solihull Hospital and community has been recognised with a special awards ceremony, held on International Nurses Day.

International Nurses Day marks the contribution that nurses make to so many people’s everyday lives.

To celebrate, nursing staff working at the Hospital and within the community were invited to a special event where they were served a selection of cakes and beverages.

Nurses that demonstrated exceptional work ethic and compassion towards patients were also recognised with a number of special prizes awarded to them by the senior nursing team.

One of the nurses recognised for her outstanding contribution was Jayne Evans, who is a sister on the stroke rehabilitation ward, described by head nurse for Solihull Hospital, Vanessa Wort as: “Always making sure patients receive the care they need.”

The community learning disability nursing team were also nominated for their compassion in looking after children.

This sometimes involves end of life care, going to the end of the earth to make these young patients final wishes come true.

Julie Tunney, deputy chief nurse, said: “The passion and enthusiasm of our staff is really something to shout about and International Nurses Day provides the ideal opportunity to give our nursing team a special treat. We celebrated some touching accounts of staff going beyond the call of duty to care for their patients.  There were many moving and powerful nominations.

“We are really proud of our nursing staff providing and the work they do on a daily basis to provide high-quality care to patients that come into our hospitals.  It was a fantastic day.”
