Coventry biker dies following Meriden crash

Solihull Editorial 8th Aug, 2022   0

A MOTORCYCLIST died after a crash in Meriden on Saturday, August 6.

West Midlands Police say the man was riding along Hampton Lane at around 5.15pm when he collided with a black Kia Sorrento near the junction of Somers Road and the entrance to Stonebridge Golf Club.

The 33-year-old, from Coventry, was thrown from the motorcycle, which burst into flames, and he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

His family – who have asked for privacy and don’t want police to identify the victim – are being supported by a family liaison officer.

The police arrested the car driver, a 71-year-old woman, on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs and has been released under investigation.

Sergeant Julie Lyman from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The woman was driving along Hampton Lane away from Meriden when the collision happened near the Somers Road junction.

“We’ve spoken to some witnesses who remained at the scene but I believe there are others who left before officers arrived.

“I need those people to come forward and tell us what they saw – and I’d appeal to anyone who was driving nearby and has dash-cam footage to also get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0121 322 6098 or email [email protected] and quote log 2674 from August 6.
