STAFF at a Chelmsley Wood opticians experienced what it was like to be deaf for the day recently.

In support of World Hearing Day, on March 3, Specsavers retail manager Claire and optical consultant Charlie were among those fitted with ear moulds to be given a glimpse into a day in the life of a deaf person.

Charlie said: “Being deaf for the day made me realise how hard it is to actually communicate without being able to hear what the other person is saying.”

Claire said: “The day made me feel very anxious and I felt everyone was judging me because I was speaking too loudly.

“It made me appreciate just how important it is to look after your hearing, in terms of having regular checks, making sure we don’t listen to music or the TV too loudly and ensuring we wear hearing protection when we’re surrounded by loud noises.’
