BUDDING naval officers designed a signal flare as part of a Stranded at Sea workshop in Acocks Green.

Pupils at Ninestiles Academy welcomed representatives from the Royal Navy’s engagement team to the school for the event.

The Navy team spoke about the different careers in the Royal Navy and what life is like onboard ship and on dry land in the service, before taking questions from students.

Alex Hughes, principal at Ninestiles, An Academy said: “It was great to have representatives from the Royal Navy in to talk to Year 8 students.

“I hope their presentation got the students thinking about their future career options and I know the workshop was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop their team work skills.

“Hopefully, some budding engineers were revealed from the challenge to create a signal flare.”
