STAFF at Morrisons in Acocks Green have raised £16,600 for the Young Lives vs Cancer- Clic Sargent charity.

The supermarket – which has generated £17.5million nationwide for the cause – has now brought down the curtain on its campaign.

The Acocks Green community champion Danielle Barker has worked alongside Clic Sargent for the past three years and overseen a variety of fund-raising events, including a head shave, leg wax, trolley raffles and superhero events – along with checkout bucket collections.

She said: “The engagement with the team and the community has been really positive and supportive.

“I would personally like to thank each of them, including my people manager Carly Brain for the support she has given me and colleagues and volunteers who generously gave up their free time and brought great character to the store.

“Cosplay Legends who dressed up as superheroes were also fantastic.

“Throughout the challenges faced this past two years with the Covid-19 pandemic we still pulled together.

“At times, especially during lockdown, we were unable to have visitors or collections in store, however despite this we still managed to achieve amazing results.”

Store manager Andrew Eaves is now embarking on a bike ride around the supermarket chain’s stores across the region for one last boost to the coffers.

He said: “Working alongside Danielle has been an absolute pleasure.

“Her ambition and drive to support all local charities and community is something to be admired.

“Danielle’s role in the community is integral to the the local people of Acocks Green and I know she personally helps shape the view of the community to our store.”

Andrew will collect cash from each of the stores he visits and donations can still be given at the Acocks Green branch.
