£1.5m for digital bootcamps to help region's jobless find work

AROUND £1.5million is to be made available to the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) so it can hold more of its popular digital bootcamps which offer people a guaranteed job interview on completion.

The extra funding is part of an £8m pot for digital bootcamps in six locations across the country – part of a government drive to boost the country’s economic recovery by transforming the skills and training system.

Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “Re-skilling and up-skilling have such critical roles to play in our region’s economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, and one of our key asks of government as part of our plans to protect and create jobs was extra support for this across the region.

“As a result of Covid people are losing their jobs, so training in the skills of the future that employers want and need is a crucial way to help people bounce back into employment quickly.”
